They Shot JFK
Pissed On Politics
The last time a President tried to get us out of a military conflict he was shot dead. That war was Vietnam and the President was John Fitzgerald Kennedy. I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion as to whom shot JFK and why. Theories run the gambit from the mafia to LBJ to the USSR to Lee Harvey Oswald acting as a crazed lone shooter. Either way JFK ended up dead and America got its war. There was much money to be made, weapons to test, and resources to be had.
It’s easy to criticize Obama. Some of those on the right don’t think he is even a U.S. Citizen. The rest on the right want a full escalation in Afghanistan. Those on the left want to end the military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan NOW. We can’t understand how the United States can spend billions upon billions for war and occupations yet argue over spending money on healthcare for our own citizens.
I would like to think Obama wants to get out of Aghanistan. But I think he realizes if he just pulls out abruptly he would be pissing off a lot of powerful people in high hidden places who have an interest in us staying in Afghanistan. From the potential oil pipeline to the heroin trade to the private contractors to the military industrial complex people are making money in Afghanistan and want us to stay there no matter the cost (blood and treasure).
One big problem for them though is that it appears Vice-President Joe Biden is no LBJ. Biden has signaled many times that he thinks we should get out of Afghanistan. Perhaps Biden is the only thing keeping Obama alive.
Look, I want us out of all foreign entanglements. But maybe for a moment we should cut Obama some slack. Maybe he is trying to find a way to appease all groups…and stay alive.
