Shorter Question Everything
Iran and US
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reports three detained U.S. citizens have been charged with espionage. Tehran’s general prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi said Monday that investigations are continuing. The three Americans were detained on July 31 for entering Iran illegally, after they apparently strayed across the border while on a hike in northern Iraq. Speaking in Berlin Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Washington believes there is no evidence to support any charge whatsoever. She again appealed to Iranian authorities to exercise compassion and release the trio.
Colombia and Venezuela
Colombia said on Sunday it will appeal to the U.N. Security Council and the OAS after Hugo Chavez, the fiery leftist president of neighboring Venezuela, ordered his army to prepare for war in order to assure peace.
Lebanon
Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri formed a unity government Monday, delivering his list of Cabinet minister to the president after months of wrangling.
Afghanistan
Tags: Afghanistan, Colombia, Iran, Lebanon, US, VenezuelaWhere does the US expect to get the troops for its Afghanistan surge? It sure can’t seem to recruit them fast enough. One of the places the US is looking is sending caught AWOL soldiers to Afghanistan. Go to Afghanistan, get a free pass? That doesn’t seem incredibly well though out to me.
